Common Name:
Tells: Yellow pores DNS or bruise blue-greenish & can be huge, esp. by the stem. Brown (chestnut, reddish or dark) cap may crack w/age.
Other Information: Yellowish cap flesh DNS or may blue slightly. Stem has raised, reddish-brown ribs by the pores. White to yellowish-white mycelium.
Science Notes: DNA testing of identified samples moved this mushroom into the newly erected genus “Xerocomus,” but/and knowledgeable experts from the region suggest that both this species and Xerocomus hypoxanthus should be merged with/into Boletus ochraceoluteus – which may well belong in either Xerocomus or Xerocomellus.

- KOH: Cap skin turns reddish brown.
