Other Information: The red in the stem & lack of bitterness distinguishes from calopus and rubripes, which are inedible. Pale yellow cap flesh blues unpredictably, from rapid to erratic to not at all.

Edibility: Good.

CHEMICAL TESTS:

  • NH4OH (Ammonia): No data.
  • KOH: Cap skin turns dark reddish-brown to black.
  • FeSO4 (Iron Salts): Cap flesh turns blue-gray.
