Common Name: “Slippery Jack”

Tells: Viscid yellow to red-brown cap w/sour-tasting skin. White stem ages yellow w/purplish or grayish tones, large, oft-viscid ring, & many dots & smears. Likes pine.

Other Information: Whitish pores quickly age yellow to brown, and DNS. Fruits in the late summer & fall.

Edibility: Good.

CHEMICAL TESTS:

NH4OH (Ammonia): Cap skin turns pale gray. Cap flesh turns pinkish before shifting to pale blue-gray.
KOH: Cap skin turns dull, dark gray. Cap flesh turns pinkish before shifting to pale blue-gray.
FeSO4 (Iron Salts): Cap skin turns grayish olive. Cap flesh turns grayish blue to olive.
