Common Name:
Tells: Grows on both wood & ground. Yellow pores bruise brown. Viscid cap varies in color (yellow to cinnamon) & may have greenish tints.
Other Information: Viscid ring is often red-brown on the bottom. Stem is yellow above the ring, darker below, & stains brown from handling. Yellow cap flesh may stain pinkish, & sometimes smells acidic. Likes conifers, especially Douglas Fir.
Edibility: Good.
CHEMICAL TESTS:
- NH4OH (Ammonia): Cap flesh turns pale lavender.
- KOH: Cap skin turns black. Cap flesh turns wine-red.
- FeSO4 (Iron Salts): Cap flesh turns gray.
