Boletus roseolateritius

Some-kind-of-red cap dulls with age toward tawny or brown. Orange- or red-on-yellow, blue-staining pores. Yellow cap flesh stains strongly blue.

Common Name:

Tells: Cap starts reddish orange, ages to brick or red-brown, then fades through orange to dingy yellow. All parts bruise dark blue (flesh fades back to pale lemon yellow). Orange-red pores age yellow.

Other Information: Yellow stem w/no netting. Likes beech with oak & hickory nearby. Only known from Mississippi.

Edibility: Unknown.

CHEMICAL TESTS:

  • NH4OH (Ammonia): No reaction.
  • KOH: No reaction.
  • FeSO4 (Iron Salts): Cap surface turns black.
