Brownish pores are bright yellow by the edge & stain dark blue. Yellow flesh quickly blues. Yellow stem w/ brown/gray powder-spots is well-netted, esp. toward the top, & bruises brown.

Common Name:

Tells: Brownish pores are bright yellow by the edge & stain dark blue. Yellow flesh quickly blues. Yellow stem w/ brown/gray powder-spots is well-netted, esp. toward the top, & bruises brown.

Other Information: Cap may crack in age. Likes oak & beech. NOTE: B. vermiculosus & vermiculosoides can share the brown coloration, but lack the well-netted stem. Stem can be red by the base.

Edibility: Good.

CHEMICAL TESTS:

  • NH4OH (Ammonia): No data.
  • KOH: Cap flesh turns orange. Pores stain dark brown.
  • FeSO4 (Iron Salts): No data.
