Common Name:

Tells: Bluish black or brown cap son ages to tan (yellow, cinnamon, or brown), & cracks or fissures w/age. Salt & pepper stem often crooked by base.

Other Information: White cap flesh slowly & erratically blues, resolving to violet-gray in old specimens. Small, whitish pores age to grayish or dingy brownish, bruising yellow or brown. Likes trembling aspen.

Edibility: Good.

CHEMICAL TESTS:

  • NH4OH (Ammonia): No data.
  • KOH: Blued flesh turns yellow.
  • FeSO4 (Iron Salts): Flesh turns pale blue.
