Tells: Distinctive orange-red-brown scales cover yellow cap. Yellow flesh may stain pink in the cap, & blue-green in the young (not old) stem base.

Other Information: Big, angular yellow pores stain red-brown. Stem has a ring, & is brighter yellow above it than below. Likes conifers, especially Douglas Fir. A western parallel to the equally common eastern species Suillus spragueii f/k/a pictus.
