Red/pink cap browns w/yellow edge, often yellow mottling. Yellow pores bruise grayish blue. Thick, pale yellow flesh blues, sometimes weakly. Stem powder-yellow above & red by base w/fine netting. Rare.

Common Name:

Tells: Red/pink cap browns w/yellow edge, often yellow mottling. Yellow pores bruise grayish blue. Thick, pale yellow flesh blues, sometimes weakly. Stem powder-yellow above & red by base w/fine netting. Rare. Likes oak, or sometimes oak mixed with pine.

Other Information: Think of a finely netted Butyriboletus with a mottled cap and flesh that blues erratically.

Edibility: Good.

CHEMICAL TESTS:

  • NH4OH (Ammonia): No data.
  • KOH: Cap skin slowly yellows.
  • FeSO4 (Iron Salts): Flesh turns grayish.
