Common Name:

Tells: Brown fibers/scales cover cap’s buff-yellow-tan base color. Yellow stem has obvious brown or red-brown dots. May taste a little sour.

Other Information: Cap often viscid. Pale yellow baby pores age to dark yellow & DNS. Likes pine.

Edibility: Good.

CHEMICAL TESTS:

  • NH4OH (Ammonia): Cap skin turns purplish brown. Cap flesh slowly turns pale grayish pink.
  • KOH: Cap skin slowly turns black. Cap flesh flashes pink and then shifts to grayish pink.
  • FeSO4 (Iron Salts): Cap skin has no reaction. Cap flesh turns greenish gray.
